Date: 30-06-2017    Time: 3:40PM

Contesting students of Mawuli Senior High School, who placed fourth in the National Science and Maths Quiz competition were given a rousing welcome today Friday 30th June 2017.

Together with their teachers, the students had a VIP ride through the principal streets of Ho, after paying a courtesy call on the Regional Director of education, and finally back to their campus where the grand welcome ceremony took place.

Addressing the mammoth gathering, the Acting Headmaster of the school Mr. M.A.K. Buadi congratulated the contestants for putting up a sterling performance.

He said all schools in the Volta Region, as well as the people were proud of their achievement.

The Headmaster observed that it took dedication, self devotion and discipline to reach such heights.

On behalf of the Mawuli School Board, the Aʋafiaga of Ho Torgbui Howusu, who is also a board member was full of praise for the school's contestants and their teachers.

He announced that the board together with the management would come up with a strategic plan to catapult the school to win the ultimate next year.

In his report, the leader of the coordinating team of the Mawuli School contesting team Mr. Benedictus Agbemavor recounted how the team managed to galvanise it's way through to almost getting to the finals.

He commended Keta Senior High School which also put up a sterling performance, but unfortunately, could not make it up to the semi finals.

Mr. Agbemavor called on the boards and management of other Senior High Schools in the Volta Region to strategise towards getting to the top in subsequent competitions.

One of the contestants Raphael Amoah said, he did not regret their defeat in the semi finals, because according to him, it was the winning school Prempeh College which was able to knock his team out at that stage.

Raphael Amoah expressed gratitude to the Old Mawulians Union (OMSU) and other concerned groups who were supportive to the team at the heat of the competition.

He however advised that such supports should not be shown only when the contest is getting to the climax.

According to him the support should be there right from the preliminary stages.

Mawuli Senior High School who were the Volta Regional champions in the Science and Maths Quiz competition, also emerged fourth at the national level after champions Prempeh College, second placed Adisadel College, and St. Thomas Acquinas Senior High School.
